The Witcher 4 already employs 400 people, but CD Projekt sees much further! | Xbox

CD Projekt RED yesterday presented its balance sheet of the 2023 financial year, the opportunity for the studio to reveal its good performance and reveal some details on the progress of its many games in development.

CD Projekt is doing well!

The least we can say is that the company is doing rather well since in 2023 it recorded a turnover of 1,230 million PLN (around 285 million euros), and a profit net of 481 million PLN (nearly 112 million euros).

Compared to the previous year, this represents an improvement of 29% and 39%, making 2023 “the second best year in the entire history of the CD PROJEKT Group”.

These good results can be attributed in particular to Cyperbunk 2077 and the release of update 2.0 as well as its Phantom Liberty DLC, which sold 5 million copies. CD Projekt also indicates that the interest generated was comparable to that of major titles launched in 2023:

The highlight of last year was undoubtedly the release of Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty, the launch of the expansion and the significant changes brought to the base game by Update 2.0 had the effect of relaunching the game and generate interest comparable to that of other major titles launching in 2023

More than 60% of the workforce on The Witcher 4!

The studio then gave news of its projects under development, particularly those from The Witcher franchise. As a reminder, three games are currently in preparation around the license, Project Polaris, Project Sirius and finally the remake of the first The Witcher.

Polaris is the studio's most important project, since we learn that it now brings together more than 400 people, or more than 60% of its workforce. Still at the pre-production stage, the studio indicates that it will enter production in the second half of the year. This is a very important project for the teams, since it will be the start of a brand new trilogy in the Witcher universe.

Project Sirius is for its part a quite different game since it is developed by the studio The Molasses Flood, and will notably integrate a multiplayer experience.

The remake of the first The Witcher is still at the concept stage; it will be developed under the Unreal Engine 5 engine and will notably use technologies created for Polaris.

The studio's other games are progressing

The studio's other projects are Orionthe sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, as well as Project Hadarthe new IP from CD Projekt.

Orion is developed by a brand new team in Boston, and supervised by CD Projekt veterans involved in the development of Cyperpunk 2077. The studio also continues to recruit, and we learned last February that developers from Hitman, Fable and even Dishonored had joined the project.

Hadar is still only at the “IP concept” stage, and only brings together around twenty people.

We obviously look forward to learning more about these different projects. After the catastrophic release of Cyberpunk 2077 in 2020, CD Projekt was able to bounce back and the studio now seems better prepared for the years to come. Below you will find the firm's entire conference.
