The Unexpected Release of Hades II Disrupts Industry Plans: Ubisoft and Evil Empire Postpone Launch

Last month, the developers ofEvil Empire (Dead Cells) And Ubisoft announced their collaboration on The Rogue Prince of Persiawhich as its name suggests will be a roguelite using the publisher's license, where the iconic parkour elements appreciated by players will mix with the codes of the studio's previous game. In the wake of the game's reveal, its release date in Early Access on Steam was therefore set for May 14or next week. Except that last Monday a certain Hades II appeared on the same platform, a game highly anticipated by the community and belonging to the same video game genre, although adopting quite different gameplay. Although the title of Supergiant Games was already planned to be released in May, its surprise arrival therefore disrupts the plans, because The Rogue Prince of Persia has been postponed.

Evil Empire don't hide it, Hades II is the reason and the developers are obviously fans of it. They therefore prefer to give players time to enjoy the available content before in turn offering theEarly Access of their baby. This also gives them the opportunity to refine the patch day one. The Rogue Prince of Persia is still expected in May and we will find out its new release date next Monday. Below is a translation of the message posted on Steamslightly different from that of the visual.

So, it’s been a bit of a crazy week for us! It all started with the release of a little game called Hades 2. Perhaps you've heard of it?

Since everyone and their mother plays this game (including our entire team…and their mothers), we decided to let people have fun with it before releasing The Rogue Prince of Persia.

We will still release it in May and come back with a specific date on Monday.

Even though we have every confidence in The Rogue Prince of Persia, it's not every day that a game of the same genre as yours, which is one of the most anticipated upcoming games of 2024, comes out on Access Anticipated a week before you planned to do the same. We're not proud enough to ignore the implications, and we truly believe this short delay is the best decision for us and our Early Access journey.

We also want to give Hades 2 a head start before we start running, that's only fair 😉

This also allows us to continue polishing the game, adding even more interesting things and squashing some stubborn bugs before release. Patch day one was getting pretty heavy, so saving more time to test it and adding more stuff before launch day has already significantly reduced the stress level for our producer and game director!

We completely understand that this news is annoying to hear for anyone who has been looking forward to playing the game, especially so close to the scheduled release. We can only raise our hands, apologize and hope you understand. It will be worth the wait!

Thanks for your patience,
Matt and the Evil Empire team
