The development studio Strange Scaffold has decided to push us to our limits. After surprising everyone with El Paso And Elsewherethe studio has decided to go all out with a new horror game that pushes the boundaries of political correctness. This is Life Eater scheduled for April 16.

A mix of genres

Presented at GDC 2024, Life Eater (literally life eater in French) is a fantasy horror game based on kidnapping simulation. We play as a serial killer who sets up traps to capture his victims. We can even manage their schedule and bug them to achieve our goals. A game that can make you uncomfortable, but which paradoxically attracts more than it rejects. And if the principle appeals so much, it is surely thanks to its numerous inspirations which make it a true mix of genres. In addition to the thinking and strategy required to achieve your objectives, Life Eater presents a pattern of tracking and learning close to Hitman, although the gameplay is completely different. The latter is closer to Unheard, particularly in the use of recordings of victims. Life eater is very intriguing and will continue to do so until its release on PC on April 16.

Macabre atmosphere

Life Eater fits perfectly into the horror genre for several reasons. On the one hand, it puts the player in the shoes of a sadistic serial killer who must carry out a series of murders, each equally atrocious. Unlike a Hitman where, although we play a hitman, we don't really feel uncomfortable performing these actions, in Life Eater the unease is palpable. But what makes this game so terrifying is this sense of reality that makes it seem like anything that happens on screen can happen. The use of geolocation, for example, really gives the title this news story aspect that sends shivers down your spine.. In an interview with Gamespot, Strane Scaffold screenwriter Xalavier Nelson Jr. had this to say: “A lot of what we did was just look at the tools available today and ask the question, “What if someone wanted to use this for harmful purposes?” “. He goes on to say “If you have a geotag, you can technically place it anywhere, including on someone else, in their car, or under the rim of their wheel”. You would have understood it, Life Eater is a horror game of the Stalker genre that manages to question us about our relationship with new technologies, while scaring us just right.
