If 2024 seems to be focused on feudal Japan with Rise of the Ronin and Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut PC, it is Assassin's Creed: Codename Hexe which is making headlines instead of Episode Red. And once again, it’s the heroine who stands out from the crowd.

Ubisoft: a future under the sign of Assassin's Creed after Star Wars Outlaws?

After a busy start to the year, Ubisoft is not resting on its laurels. After Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown and Skull & Bones, two video games from the French company are already dated. Rogue Prince of Persia arrives May 14 in Early Access (we even made a preview of it) and the ambitious Star Wars: Outlaws at the end of August. After the latter, the future is a little more vague but we can be sure of one thing: it will consist of Assassin's Creed.

After a catastrophic year, Ubisoft decides to go all out on its flagship license]. Next on the list? Assassin's Creed: Codename Red, which sets its scene in feudal Japan. Expected for 2025, it will complete a year focused on this historic period after the release of Rise of the Ronin and Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut on PC. Lurking just behind is Assassin's Creed: Codename Hexe which would see the light of day on the Infinity platform. An episode that seems more promising to some and which is quickly forgotten.

Magic in Assassin's Creed Codename Hexe

However, it is Assassin's Creed Hexe which is getting more attention lately than AC: Red. Several months ago, it was the media Insider Gaming which described the episode as “darkest ever” with an imposed female protagonist. A first for an episode of Assassin's Creed, but the surprises wouldn't stop there. It's in a new article from Insider Gaming that we learn more about the identity of Elsa, the heroine of this new opus. Here is what they were able to find out thanks to a video extract that was sent to them:

In this sequence, Elsa appears to be hunted by 16th century German soldiers and uses a spell to possess a cat that happens to be nearby. The player then controls the cat and uses it to distract the soldiers by knocking over a glass bottle, which crashes to the ground and distracts the soldier's attention.

Their sources also specify that Ubisoft plans to include a fear mechanic, like the one present in the Jack the Ripper DLC from AC: Syndicate. In light of the comments on the social network the presence of magic and witchcraft. Enough to make some of the players melancholic, seeming to remember the distant years when Assassin's Creed “only concerned normal people and did not deal with mythological creatures or gods.”.

It should be remembered, however, that while Insider Gaming's sources may be authentic, they in no way guarantee any particular feature of the upcoming game. We will have to wait for future official declarations to be sure.
