When you are a franchise that weighs several billion dollars at the box office, you can quickly sink into excess… and bite your fingers. This is what happened to this franchise which suffered a semi-commercial failure because of its pharaonic budget. To begin her conclusion, she spent excessively and that didn't allow her to get better scores than the previous film!

Excessive budgets aren't everything in Hollywood: it's hard to match James Cameron and Avatar

These last years, the box office showed us one thing : it is not because you blow the budget of your film production that you are sure of achieving a success proportional to your expenses, unless perhaps your name is James Cameron but that's another subject. Indeed, the director of Titanic is capable of doing wonders, as proven by the prodigious results of his feature films, and some envy him this power. Just with the two parts of the saga Avatar, the budget spent by James Cameron explodes the ceiling and reaches the colossal sum of almost 500 million dollars (487 million, to be more precise).

Concerning the third part, it is very likely that we will be looking at a similar quantity of dollars. Except that there should be no concerns about the return on investment if it follows the trajectory of its predecessors: 2.923 billion dollars for the first opus and 2.32 for the next. Compared to such figures, those in the budget seem derisory even though they are nevertheless very substantial. However, there are films that have dared to venture even further into spending. The problem is that they really haven't managed to create as much spark as the saga of James Cameron, like… Fast Xthe latest installment of the saga Fast & Furious.

Fast

We don't know what happened to Vin Diesel, but the franchise's star actor thought it was a good idea to rev the engine up to begin the conclusion of the saga. Compared to the previous component, the budget of Fast X was $140 million higher, reaching a whopping $340 million, making it the fourth most expensive film in cinema history. Only the MCU And Pirates of the Caribbean had eyes as big as their stomachs before him! Result of the races, Vin Diesel thought he would fly away and take pole position in the race for number 1 at the box office, except that this escalation of resources quickly led to a breakdown.

Ultimately, the balance sheet of Fast X is no more brilliant than that of its elders. Even though the franchise can boast of being worth more than 6.6 billion dollars, the results of Fast X are not necessarily amazing given the budget dedicated to the last part. Crossing the finish line, Fast X managed to reach the $714 million in revenueeither a bit less than the previous one (726 million), and that is the whole problem, especially since Fast & Furious 9 had to brave the pandemic. And again, the results are heavier than announced since we only mentioned the budget linked to production, and not to marketing. If we add that into the equation, we obtain a very (very) hefty addition which would potentially be around $500 million in budget. In short, we understand better why it was considered a semi-failure!
