If it's more than 15 days since Nintendo announced the closure of its servers dedicated to 3DS and Wii U, most players of these machines move forward. However, one of them stands alone and still remains online in the first installment of the Splatoon series.

The irreducible

It is on X (formerly Twitter) that the user @Lcd101 became known as the last player apparently still online on Splatoon. He claims that certain services are still operational despite the closure of the servers, claiming to do everything to remain in the game as long as said services remain accessible.

Hold on to your tentacles…for bad news. As of the (delayed) 2:00 a.m. rotation, matchmaking (lobbying) has officially ceased in Splatoon. Other online services, including news and stores, are still functional and I still stay online. I repeat, I am ALWAYS online. – @Lcd101 on X

The latter nevertheless specifies that the store and news remain available only to those who remain online. For others who try to access it after logging out, they will be faced with a maintenance error code. Regardless, the reckless player indicates that he intends to “stay online in this state for as long as possible”.

The 8 survivors

If his approach may seem absurd, However, he is not alone in his fight, since seven other players, like him, are resisting. Indeed, when the servers were closed, an Internet user retrieved connection data from different games. In this list, we find Mario Kart 7 and Mario Kart 8, Pokémon X/Y, Pokémon Ultra-Sun/Ultra-Moon, Super Mario Maker, Splatoon and Wii Sports Club.

These latest presences are recorded and monitored on a Discord server bringing together many already nostalgic players. This event is also reminiscent of the handfuls of players who kept their Xboxes on to play Halo 2 as much as possible online, once access to the servers has been permanently cut. This attachment once again demonstrates the attachment of players to their favorite games and services, doing their best to preserve them, like this player who managed in just a few days to save dozens of DLCs for her favorite title ..
