Successor reports back with new screenshots

Since the postponement to 2024 and the switch to Unreal Engine 5 last spring, things have been quite quiet about “The Wolf Among Us 2”. Today we finally received a sign of life in the form of new screenshots.

It has now been more than a year since the last sign of life from “The Wolf Among Us 2”. In March 2023, Telltale Games announced a postponement to 2024 and justified this step with the switch to Unreal Engine 5.

After things became quite quiet again about the successor, an old acquaintance gave us a short update on the current status of things this week. We're talking about Geoff Keighley, presenter and producer of The Game Awards.

Via X (formerly Twitter), Keighley pointed out that “The Wolf Among Us 2” is currently in production or active development. At the same time, Keighley provided a fresh quartet of screenshots for “The Wolf Among Us 2”, which we have of course included for you to view.

Changing the engine meant a lot of work

In the wake of The Wolf Among Us 2 being postponed until this year, Telltale CEO Jamie Ottilie pointed out that the move from Unreal Engine 4 to Unreal Engine 5 created a lot of extra work for the developers. Some of the assets or content had to be completely redesigned based on Unreal Engine 5.

At the same time, the CEO emphasized that Telltale will take the time necessary to deliver a finished product. “If we release this game and it’s not finished, we’ll be torn to pieces,” Ottilie said.

“The expectations are quite high and we want to have time to meet them. And we want to be proud of it and know: Hey, this is the best game we could have played.”

Crunch phase should be avoided if possible

Another topic that Telltale's CEO talked about at the time is crunch periods. Since Ottilie knows from her own experience times in which developers have to work massive overtime to complete a project, the team behind “The Wolf Among Us 2” should ideally be spared such a scenario.

“I have [Crunch] done it and don't want to do it again. And it's not fair to ask for that. You can't base your business on that. Yes, it's also about maintaining a healthy work culture. We don’t want to let our good people burn out,” the CEO explained at the time.

“The Wolf Among Us 2” is scheduled for release in 2024 for PC and consoles.
