An ancient trilogy

Released in 2012, 2013 and 2014, the three films of Hobbit were previously available on the SVOD Netflix platform. However, as of September 30, 2022, this is no longer the case. Unless you have a Prime Video subscription, it was impossible for you to see the three installments in any other legal way. But Bilbo Baggins has not said his last word, because for a few days, his adventure has been available for free on TF1+.

Did you give him a chance?

Adapted from the novel of the same name by JJR Tolkien, The Hobbit tells the story which precedes that of Lord of the Rings. We find Frodo's family, more particularly his uncle, Bilbo, as well as Gandalf, obviously. The two protagonists will be accompanied by thirteen dwarves. All together, they will have to venture into Middle Earth to reach the lair of the dragon Smaug and recover his treasure!

This trilogy was highly appreciated by the general public, but critics did not shower the adaptation with praise. The 1937 novel is different, the film made some script choices which were not very popular. For example, the point of view is different. The novel centers on Bilbo, while the film regularly shows us moments where Gandalf is the main character in the scene. The tone is therefore less simple and is aimed at less young spectators, unlike the novel. However, both works are excellent, and it's up to you to form your own opinion!
