Someone actually rode a sandworm into the movie theater

Who doesn't know this: you're waiting for your overpriced snack menu at the local cinema, you're looking forward to Dune 2 like Bolle and suddenly it comes a Fremen warrior rode in on his sandworm.

Sounds made up? No, we would never lie to you! There is even evidence that these events happened like this – or something similar.

Elaborate cosplay with great attention to detail

The completely unexpected plot twist: It is not a true sandworm from Arrakis. It's a good thing, you might say, because then we would probably have bad cards and wouldn't go for walks outside anymore.

Rather, it is the specimen seen about an elaborate cosplay of the Instagram user Jesse Myer. Even the official Dune profile on X (formerly Twitter) took notice of the cosplay and retweeted a video of it:

Did you have to laugh heartily? Nice, us too! Nevertheless, in our opinion, the cosplayer truly deserves applause for his dedication. Mainly because he himself dressed in main character Paul Atreides' Fremen outfit to appear even more authentic.

Even his riding technique would satisfy the proud desert people. So that he doesn't fall off the motorized worm, he stylishly uses two authentic pickaxes.

IGN interviewed Jesse Myer. He is very surprised but also really happy that his creation inspires so many people:

What particularly caught my attention were comments like The cinema is back! and so forth. It just makes me happy that I can be the one to give people that feeling again. And I get comments like My husband saw this video and doesn't want to stop talking about it. He loves to.

What are the sandworms in Dune all about?

If you haven't delved into the Dune universe yet and are worried about your ignorance, we'd be happy to provide you with some context:

The sandworms – also called Shai-Hulud by the Fremen people – live in the endless deserts on the planet Arrakis. They play an essential role in the creation of the valuable spicei.e. the raw material around which everything in Dune revolves.

What makes sandworms so dangerous for the uninitiated: The smallest vibrations on the sand surface are enough to draw their attention to you. However, as we see in Dune 2, the Shai-Hulud can rightly be called allies of the Fremen.

Because the desert people ride on the majestic monsters. Paul Atreides also makes use of this in Denis Villeneuve's new cinema hit. The sandworms play a large (and spectacular to watch!) role in his quest for revenge against the House of Harkonnen.
