Renowned Peking University Professor Shu Yousheng, Leader of Chinese Physics Olympiad Team, Passes Away

Professor Shu Yousheng was born in Shanghai on February 27, 1942. He graduated from Nankai University in July 1965. He came to work at the school in August 1978 and worked in the Department of Physics. He was promoted to professor in August 1995 and served as general physics professor from 1996 to 2001. Director of the Teaching and Research Section, and director of the General Physics Teaching Center from 2001 to 2004. He retired in March 2005.

Professor Shu Yousheng was responsible for the selection, training and team leadership of the Chinese team in the International Physics Olympiad from 1989 to 1996.Won the first place in the team many timesDuring this period, he was jointly commended by the State Education Commission and the China Association for Science and Technology six times, and was received by President Jiang Zemin in recognition of his contribution to the training of the Chinese team in the 21st-26th International Physics Olympiad. Since then, Professor Shu Yousheng has served as the head coach of the National Olympic Physics Competition training team from 2007 to 2012, 2016 and 2019.He has made important contributions to the training and selection of the Olympia national team and the training of young teachers.

Professor Shu Yousheng participated in the reform of the teaching content and curriculum system of new concept mechanics for the 21st century, which won the 1997 National Outstanding Teaching Achievement Award. The reform and construction of the electromagnetics series courses he participated in won the first prize of the 2005 National Teaching Achievement Award. First prize for outstanding teaching achievements in Beijing. His participation in the selection of outstanding innovative physics talents, exploration and reform of training models won the second prize for outstanding teaching achievements in Beijing in 2013. As the course leader, he presided over the construction of the mechanics course in 2007. Won the Beijing Quality Course and the National Quality Course in 2008.

Professor Shu Yousheng has published volumes (1)-(3) of “Olympic Physics”, “History of the International Physics Olympiad”, “Mechanics (Physics)”, “Mechanics Questions and Answers”, and “High School Physics Competition Training Tutorial (2nd Edition)” “Olympiad Physics Question Selection”, “Olympic Physics Test Question Selection” and other teaching materials, and participated in the editor-in-chief of “Middle School Physics Competition Guide”, “Collection of Physics Problems (Updated Edition)”, “Special Research on Electromagnetism”, “High School Physics Competition Question Book”, “High School Physics” Textbooks for Competition Training (Volume 1 of Senior High School), “Training Textbook for High School Physics Competition (Volume 2 of Senior High School)”, “New Training Textbook for High School Physics Competition (Volume 1)”, “New Textbook for Training for High School Physics Competition (Volume 2)” and other textbooks During his illness, he still insisted on reprinting textbooks such as “History of the International Physics Olympiad (Second Edition)” and “Mechanics (Second Edition)”.

He strives for excellence in teaching and is amiable to students. He was named one of the top ten teachers of Peking University in 2000 and 2001.
