While official information about the next part of Crystal Dynamics remains scarce for the time being, rumors are circulating on the Internet, not least of which relate to the gaming world. Here fans could encounter more freedom than usual.

Tomb Raider reportedly has an open-world setting in India

Just in time for the weekend, statements from Twitter/X user Thevscooper are making the rounds. According to media reports, he showed a high level of accuracy in advance (at least with film topics), so it could be worth taking a look at the alleged leak.

One of the statements refers to the setting and concept of the game world. The upcoming “Tomb Raider” is said to be an open-world game that takes place in India.

“With expansive landscapes, free use of motorcycle, parachute and Lara’s usual modes of transportation to navigate freely across a large map and its challenges,” emphasizes the insider to the open world approach.

With the reference to the “usual methods of transportation,” Thevscooper is probably referring to Lara’s parkour skills, so the protagonist’s next adventure apparently also offers a lot of opportunities for discovery.

The insider would like to know the following information about the plot:

  • A natural disaster strikes northern India, exposing the ruins and artifacts of the ancient Emperor Ashoka.
  • Lara strategically fights against a “Society of Raiders” and other rivals for these powerful relics.
  • The “Society of Raiders” is inspired by but not affiliated with Lara and may have opposing goals.
  • There is a new feature based on recruiting teams and allies to help you strategically in missions and defeat rivals.

Likewise, “Tomb Raider” is set to get a non-lethal combat option, suggesting that Lara Croft may no longer be the “killing machine” she was in the past.

Official presentation of Tomb Raider soon?

Finally, the claim was made that more information about the new “Tomb Raider” would follow soon. In addition, the game will “probably be released in less than a year if there are no delays.” A larger back door remained open here because it was “absolutely not secured”.

Further news about Tomb Raider:

If the information is correct, the decision to ditch the traditional linear level design of previous games in favor of a completely open world could cause fire among “Tomb Raider” fans. Ultimately, however, it depends on how convincingly Crystal Dynamics structures the world and what importance exploration has in it.

First, the information must be confirmed. Here would be an introduction to the new “Tomb Raider” on the Summer Game Fest on June 7, 2024 at least in the conceivable range.
