PS5 Pro: With Ultra Boost mode and Enhanced label

The high-end console PS5 Pro is intended to take gaming to new heights. They are marked with an enhanced label, about which further information was received today. The same applies to Ultra Boost mode.

While Sony apparently with quite drastic measures is taking action against leaks, The Verge was able to provide further details PS5 Pro raise. A system is described that should also give older PS5 games a boost.

In addition, the publication confirms the Information from insider Tom Henderson to the “PS5 Pro Enhanced” label, which is used to identify games that take advantage of the power of the new console.

The PS5 Pro's Enhanced label is also available for smaller improvements

To get the most out of the PS5 Pro, the hardware manufacturer is demanding studios according to the report to establish a “new PS5 Pro-exclusive graphics mode” in their games that combines Sony’s new PSSR upscaling to 4K with a frame rate of 60 frames per second and ray tracing effects.

This allows developers to get the most out of the base PS5 to PS5 Pro upgrade. However, smaller improvements are also sufficient for the “PS5 Pro Enhanced” label. Developers therefore have the opportunity to activate ray tracing effects and qualify for the PS5 Pro Enhanced label without increasing the resolution or frame rate.

The requirements that qualify for the enhanced label include:

  • Increased target resolution on PS5 Pro while fixed resolution on PS5
  • Increased maximum target resolution on PS5 Pro when base PS5 has variable resolution
  • Enable ray tracing effects
  • Increased frame rate target

The Verge's report suggests enhanced titles that run at resolutions of 1280p to 2160p on the new console, but only reach 1080p to 1440p on the base PS5 – at the same frame rate.

Do you want to know more about the PS5 Pro? Here is a summary:

No Enhanced label for a more stable frame rate

The PS5 Pro has significantly more GPU power under the hood, with a rather manageable CPU boost. The increase in performance alone will ensure that many games will run more stable on the upgrade console.

In addition, there is the Ultra Boost mode, which potentially helps the VRR modes with a higher frame rate and variable resolutions to produce better results, so that some games benefit even if they have not been explicitly optimized for the PS5 Pro. The overall frame rates could also be more stable for certain titles, writes The Verge.

However, such improvements are not enough to receive the Enhanced label. The same applies to variable resolutions where the maximum value does not change. If a game is switched from a variable resolution of 1440p to 2160p to a variable resolution of 1800p to 2160p, the Enhanced label does not exist. This would require an increase in the maximum resolution.

In addition, not all games automatically benefit from the boost: Sony warns developers that “many unpatched games will not show any improvements in this Ultra Boost mode”. Games with a fixed resolution and graphics settings for fixed rendering resolutions therefore do not benefit without the developers taking further action.

Further reports about the PS5 Pro:

The Verge reported yesterday that all games submitted for certification from August should be made compatible with the PS5 Pro. According to Gamesindustry's Christopher Dring, many developers see However, this is not necessary in the PS5 Pro. After all, the basic PS5 has far from been exhausted.
