Part of the canceled Cataclysm system? Dataminer discovers unused maps

Even more than two years after the original release of “Elden Ring,” undiscovered or unused assets continue to be tracked down in the role-playing game’s data sets. The data miner “Sekiro Dubi” recently came across unused areas that were apparently part of the canceled Cataclysm system.

The data miner and YouTuber “Sekiro Dubi” recently provided us with interesting details about “Elden Ring” at regular intervals. He focused primarily on content that was deleted during development.

Including an alternative intro to “Elden Ring” that you can see here can look at. In a recent video, “Sekiro Dubi” upped the ante and brought further content that had been discarded by the developers to light.

This time the video is about areas and maps that, according to the data miner, were probably part of the Cataclysm system that was discovered and deleted last year.

What is the Cataclysm system?

Like “Sekiro Dubi” in one Video published in 2023 explained, the Cataclysm system would have had a noticeable impact on the gameplay of “Elden Ring” and the exploration of the game world. Under this system, areas would have been opened or closed based on your decisions and actions in the game.

As an example, the data miner cited areas in which snowdrifts or a meteorite impact block the path. This in turn would have resulted in the relevant areas being inaccessible. In his current video, “Sekiro Dubi” takes up unused maps and areas that, according to him, were connected to the Cataclysm system.

According to the data miner, the fact that some of the discovered areas have not even been provided with the basic assets suggests that, like the Cataclysm system, these were deleted quite early.

The attached video provides you with further details and impressions of the areas in question.

From Software is working on its biggest expansion

From Software is currently working on the add-on for “Elden Ring” called “Shadow of the Erdtree”. According to official information, we can look forward to the Japanese studio's biggest expansion to date. The new content in “Shadow of the Erdtree” includes ten new bosses.

Just like it was the case in the main game, the bosses in the extensive expansion will sometimes demand everything from us. The bottom line is that the difficulty level of “Shadow of the Erdtree” should be based on the endgame of “Elden Ring”.

“Shadow of the Erdtree” will be released on June 21, 2024 for the PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. The price of the extension is just under 40 euros. On the same day, From Software is launching the “Shadow of the Erdtree Edition” for “Elden Ring”.

With the “Shadow of the Erdtree Edition” we are dealing with a complete edition that includes both the main game and the upcoming expansion.

The complete package is offered for 79.99 euros and will be available in both a download version and a retail version.
