Dax GinnStudio Director at Whatboy Games, commented on the release of version 1.0 as follows:

With Nexus 5X we are creating a completely new expansion of the 4X genre. By shortening the game time to around an hour, we are opening the door to multiplayer in the 4X genre in a way that has never been the case in the 4X space. 4X games are known for being primarily time-consuming single-player experiences, while Nexus 5X offers all the strategic depth of the genre, but in a time frame that allows players to play on equal terms with each other.
