Gladiator 2: Kanye West replaces Hans Zimmer for the soundtrack

At CinemaCon, the first trailer for Gladiator 2 has just been revealed. With actor Paul Mescal leading the cast, Ridley Scott's second opus already promises to be thrilling. Another international name is added to the XXL casting of this film: that of Kanye West ! Indeed, several fans were able to notice that a sound from the American rapper appeared in the trailer. The sound that spectators were able to hear is an extract from No Church In The Wild released in 2013.

What is more surprising, however, is the absence of Hans Zimmer. The German composer, although present on 9 pieces of music for the soundtrack of the first Gladiator, is not among the musical team of the next Paramount film. British composer Harry Gregson-Williams was chosen to replace him. He was notably able to compose for The Martian, Narnia or even Kingdom of Heaven. He will therefore have the difficult task of replacing Hans Zimmer, who made Gladiator one of his cult films. The German composer created music from Lion King, Inception and even more recently Dune 2.

Hans Zimmer recently spoke to Curzon on the reasons for his absence from the musical team of Gladiator 2. While all the fans expected them to bring out the costume, the German composer declared not wanting to compare yourself to one of his most emblematic scores. His decision would have been made after the remake of The Lion King on Disney. Indeed, he reveals that he tried new things to surprise and not repeat himself to the public.
