What are chili herbs used for in Zelda TOTK?

Like its predecessor, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom offers you a very large number of different objects and ingredients of varying usefulness. Whether you want to combine an item on a weapon to improve it, add an ingredient to a dish to give it bonuses or accumulate items to sell or give to Great Fairies, you will have plenty to fill your inventory in Zelda TOTK. Among all these objects, we note for example the presence of chili herbs.

Considered primarily as cooking ingredientschili herbs are mainly used to prepare dishes that will have the effect of increasing your body temperature. This will make it easier for you to explore cold regions like the Hebra Mountains for example. However, chili herbs are not the only items that can be used to achieve the same result, and so they can easily be substituted in cooking. Therefore, what makes this ingredient an important item to harvest is an entirely different use: improving outfits. Indeed, if you want improve the fluffy outfit of the Piaf village (which allows you to protect yourself from the cold and frost), you will necessarily need some chili herbs.

Where to find chili herbs in Zelda TOTK?

Quite logically (but not necessarily practical), Chili herbs grow where you need them least: in the warm areas of the Gerudo Desert and Ordinn Canyon. If you want to collect some easily, all you have to do is go to one of these two regions and scan the surroundings to collect some in the wild. Unfortunately, chili herbs don't often grow in groups, so you'll have to be patient to collect several of them. To help you find them, we still advise you to refer to the next two cards. The areas marked in pink are those where you can find chili herbs more easily.

As with almost all objects in the game, there is still a very good technique to find chili herbs more easily: the encyclopedic detector. Behind this somewhat barbaric name lies a functionality of your tablet which will allow you to activate a sound detector when you approach a chili herb. To unlock it, you will need to complete the side quest Elimith's Pru'ha Laboratory then talk to Faras in the Ancient Elimith Laboratory in order to launch the matching quest. You will then need to take some photos to start your encyclopedia. Once the detector is unlocked, all you have to do is take a photo of a chili herb to add it to the program and configure it so that it detects chili herbs around you.
