Is the Star Wars Battlefront Collection Doomed to Fail?

The Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection, which was supposed to give the game a second life, is in the process of giving it a second death. And it's really very sad, especially when you're a fan.

A month after its launch, the Star Wars Battlefront Remastered Collection, which brings together the famous first-person shooters Star Wars Battlefront and Star Wars Battlefront 2 originally developed by Pandemic Studios in 2004 and 2005, is off to an extremely difficult start. Initially eagerly anticipated by the gaming community, this re-release seemed promising in theory, envisioned as a modern update to much-loved classics. Except… it's a disaster.

Star Wars Battlefront Collection flops

Shortly after its release, it became clear that the Star Wars BF remaster failed to convince or meet players' expectations. The Steam platform currently shows that only 20% of the 6672 reviews are positive. Thus giving the game a mostly negative evaluation. The main criticisms point to technical problems which make access and progress in multiplayer games particularly laborious. Much more than they should be. Especially with the latest patch.

In addition, the price of the collection, set at 34 euros, was considered excessive by a large part of the community, given the age of the original games. These factors combined have led to a rapid and significant decline in the number of active players. Currently, there are only 48 active players on Steam. With a weekly peak not exceeding 111 players. For a primarily multiplayer game, these numbers are particularly low and don't bode well for the future of the title, especially for those looking to join online games.

Faced with this situation, players looking for alternatives can turn to other games in the Star Wars franchise. Or explore other multiplayer games that have better reviews and a more active gaming community. Otherwise, the GOG version of the original game seems to be very successful.

This remastered version of Star Wars Battlefront once again illustrates the challenges developers face. Who attempt to revitalize and modernize video game classics. Without sufficient attention to technical details and an appropriate pricing policy, even the most promising titles can quickly disappoint their audiences.
