Intel mandates motherboard manufacturers to activate “Intel Default Settings” configuration by default before May 31 to address stability problems with 13th/14th generation Core processors.

Gamingdeputy reported on May 6 that according to Benchlife reports, Intel recently issued an email to motherboard manufacturers stating that it would launch the “Intel Default Settings” configuration file. And customers are required to use this setting as the default configuration file of the motherboard BIOS before May 31 this year.

Intel requests system and motherboard manufacturers to provide end users with a default BIOS profile that matches Intel recommended settings.

• Suggested profile name “Intel Default Settings”.

• Intel requests customers to implement the “Intel Default Settings” profile as the BIOS default profile by May 31, 2024.

Gamingdeputy previously reported that Intel introduced the “Intel Baseline Profile” to adjust voltage and power consumption to improve instability such as game crashes on Intel's 13th/14th generation processors.

Intel has observed that users of 600/700 series chipset motherboards often set BIOS defaults that disable thermal and power supply protection measures that limit sustained high voltage and frequency of the processor, such as:

  • Disabling Current Overload Protection (CEP)

  • Unlimited maximum current (Unlimited ICCMax)

  • Enable Thermal Speed Boost (TVB) or Enhanced Thermal Speed Boost (eTVB)

  • Other settings that may increase the risk of system instability:

  • Disable CPU C-state

  • Use Windows Premium Performance Mode

  • PL1 and PL2 settings exceed Intel recommendations

Intel makes this configuration officialName it “Intel Default Settings” and ask the motherboard manufacturer to set it as the default configuration. It is unclear whether this profile will further adjust and optimize the previous “Intel Baseline Profile” or whether it is just a pure name change.

Intel said it will issue a public statement within this month regarding the status of the problem and Intel's recommended BIOS settings.
