Hesai Introduces Fourth-Generation Chip Architecture Ultra-Wide-Angle Long-Range Lidar ATX with Support for 256 Lines

Gamingdeputy reported on April 19 that Hesai today officially released the ultra-wide-angle long-range lidar ATX based on the fourth-generation chip architecture.

According to the official introduction, ATX is a platform product that uses the mature AT platform that has been mass-produced for hundreds of thousands of units. It is equipped with the fourth-generation chip architecture and has upgraded the optical-mechanical design and laser transceiver module.Compared with AT128, ATX is about 60% smaller in size and 50% lighter in weight.while achieving longer detection distance, better optimal resolution, and wider field of view.

Hesai Technology said that with its advantages such as small size, long range, and ultra-wide angle, ATX has been mass-produced by many OEMs such as leading domestic car companies, leading new energy car companies, leading new forces, mainstream European and American joint venture car companies, etc. fixed point,Mass production is expected to begin in Q1 2025.

ATX follows the “chip-based transceiver + one-dimensional scanning” architecture of the Hesai AT series, and achieves a compact design by further improving the integration of the transceiver module and greatly simplifying the core optical scanning structure; compared with the AT128, the ATX machine The size is reduced by 60%, the weight is reduced by half to 500 g, the minimum exposed window height is only 25 mm, and the power consumption of the whole machine is reduced by 55% to only 8 W when integrated into the vehicle.

Thanks to its extremely compact size and ultra-low power consumption, ATX can be embedded in different locations on the car body, including the roof, behind the front windshield, inside the lights, etc., providing car manufacturers with more ways to install lidar. .

Hesai officials stated that the maximum detection distance of ATX reaches 300 meters, which is 50% higher than AT128.It can support up to 256 lines, and the best angular resolution reaches 0.08° x 0.1°, which is more than 2 times that of AT128.. It supports smart cars to sense vehicles, pedestrians, etc. in advance at greater distances when driving at high speeds, and respond in a timely manner. It also supports the generation of high-precision three-dimensional road models for vehicles at greater distances.

Compared with the 120° horizontal field of view of similar products on the market, ATX has a horizontal field of view of 140°. It can promptly detect complex road conditions such as emergency vehicles, pedestrians or non-motorized vehicles crossing on both sides.

ATX is equipped with the world's first Intelligent Point Cloud Engine (IPE) independently developed by Hesai, which integrates a 256-core waveform processing core with a sampling rate of 24.6 billion times per second, and can intelligently identify rain, fog, and the vehicle ahead. Exhaust gas, dust, etc., and perform “pixel-level” marking in point clouds in real time, supporting the filtering of more than 99.9% of environmental noise.

Hesai Technology officially stated that the capability can effectively reduce system misidentification and false triggering, and significantly reduce the interference of rain and fog weather on lidar.

By redesigning the optical architecture, Hesai enables ATX to have a 7x optical zoom function and can perform multi-mode switching in real time:

  • When driving in urban areas, ATX can achieve a 140° ultra-wide field of view to suitably monitor road conditions on both sides of the car.

  • When driving at high speed,ATX can turn on 7x optical zoom, achieving super telemetry capability up to 500 meters and 7x high-definition perceptionto further enhance smart cars’ perception of road conditions far ahead.

Hesai LiDAR has been using self-developed special chips since 2017. The Hesai LiDAR ATX special chip architecture platform released this time uses the 4th generation chip architecture.

Embedded inside is a 256-core Intelligent Point Cloud Parsing Engine (IPE) and an 8-core APU, supporting 24.6 billion samples per second. Compared with the previous generation product, the detector sensitivity is increased by 130%, single-point ranging power consumption is reduced by 85%, and it also supports all-solid-state two-dimensional electronic scanning, photon anti-interference, intelligent optical zoom and other intelligent functions.

Gamingdeputy previously reported that Hesai Technology has also launched a “performance trump card” product for the mass-produced vehicle market equipped with intelligent driving systems – the 512-line ultra-high-definition ultra-long-range lidar AT512. Hesai Technology said,AT512 can achieve standard distance measurement of 300 meters, and the longest distance measurement can reach 400 meters..
