Helldivers 2 Developers: The Future of Our Game is Set, and It’s Not Fortnite

With Lethal Company and Content Warning, Helldivers 2 is clearly one of the multiplayer hits of recent months. Released on February 8, 2024 on PS5 and PC, Arrowhead Game's cooperative shooter asks you to defend Super-Earth and spread democracy to the four corners of the galaxy – which, in concrete terms, means smashing aliens with big guns. guns | air strikes! From the start, Helldivers 2 wowed the crowds thanks to its omnipresent humor – reminiscent of a certain Starship Troopers – and its ingenious four-player mechanics., even its production (it explodes everywhere). The icing on the cake: the thousands of players converge towards a common objective, with twists and turns cleverly imagined by a game master who, as in a paper role-playing game, shapes the universe as he goes. In short, a completely unique proposition that appealed to many.

Light years

Helldivers 2 therefore has all the cards in hand to ensure a good and long life… Aside from the “game master” aspect, Arrowhead must therefore ensure that it adds new features (like mechas, in March 2024) while monitoring the balancing of the whole – which has recently caused some disappointments. Now, we learn that the title could accommodate “c-à-c” weapons.

Soon melee weapons?

It is GamesRadar who spotted the mention of a melee arsenal, on the official Helldivers 2 Discord… Currently, players can only deliver butt strikes with their weapon, but according to Arrowhead Game, adding more melee options is “plausible”. But, on one condition, it must be done with “broad respect for the lore”. The studio continues: “These weapons are plausible in Helldivers. But Star Wars lightsabers wouldn't be (…) We don't want to be Kingdom Hearts or Fortnite”. That is clear. We are therefore waiting to see how the team will approach this. In the meantime, Helldivers 2 remains available on PC and PS5.
