Very special rules of the game also apply to YouTubers, streamers and media representatives at Gamescom 2024 – an initial overview.

Update from April 18, 2024: Koelnmesse has published the accreditation guidelines for content creators at Gamescom 2024 – this Form is now activated (also the counterpart for the press).

For the first time, specific ranges are specified that must at least be met.

  • Twitch: Average of 300 concurrent viewers (CCV) over the last 3 months
  • Instagram: At least 75,000 followers
  • TikTok: At least 250,000 followers
  • YouTube: At least 300,000 subscribers
  • Facebook: At least 250,000 followers
  • Podcasts: At least 5,000 listeners per episode

The reach on X (formerly Twitter) obviously doesn't matter.

The content discussed must primarily revolve around gaming or related topics (cosplay, board/board games, trading card games, streaming, anime, films, series, etc.). If this is not the case, a particularly convincing argument is required – such as awards won.

The minimum age is 16 years. One accompanying person (management, technical employee, etc.) is permitted per Creator.

Further information can be found on the Gamescom website.

Report from March 21, 2024: Analogous to other trade fairs and major events, the organizers of Gamescom 2024 (August 21st to 28th) also have a vital interest in ensuring that reports, photos, streams and videos from the Cologne exhibition center go around the world – whether via TV, radio, YouTube, daily newspaper or TikTok. Journalists and influencers are therefore not only allowed into the halls free of charge, but also benefit from other advantages.

However, there are very specific requirements for accreditation as a creator or media professional that are checked in advance – not everyone who runs an Instagram channel with 100 followers or founded a gaming blog two minutes ago can expect the green light. The demarcation inevitably leads to conflicts: In previous years, influencers vented their anger because their application was rejected without justification despite meeting all the requirements. Of course, the ultimate decision still lies with the owner of the house rights – in this case Koelnmesse.

However, one factor hasn't changed this year either: the working conditions for creators differ fundamentally from those for press representatives.

The Gamescom organizers will roll out the red carpet for anyone with a particularly large reach on social networks – including a shuttle service and security support.

But it's also worth it for small and medium-sized Twitch, YouTube or TikTok creators Accreditation. The main advantage is access to the so-called 'Creator Co-Working Space', which is equipped with streaming booths, over 100 workstations with electricity and WiFi as well as relaxation areas. Additionally, snacks and drinks will be served.

Also included: free parking and of course free entry on all days of the trade fair, one hour before and after regular opening hours. An additional accompanying person is accredited per creator, such as technical staff on the camera and microphone.

Important: Every Gamescom influencer has to personal accreditation for Gamescom – a task that the responsible agency or influencer network can of course also take on.

It is still unclear which specific conditions (platforms, followers, subscribers, frequency, etc.) apply to Gamescom 2024. Because accreditation is not yet possible – the link will be activated in time (update will follow).

Gamescom 2024: Accreditation for journalists

The Gamescom organizers require proof of journalistic or publishing activity related to the trade fair – for example through current articles or the submission of an imprint. Possessing a valid press card helps, but is usually not enough (Conditions).

After a successful application, press representatives will receive…

  • Free access to Gamescom 2024 on all days of the trade fair – one hour before the halls open and one hour after the trade fair closes.
  • a free parking space in the press parking spaces.
  • a daily email with daily highlights
  • automatic accreditation for the Devcom developer conference (August 18th to 20th)

There are workstations available in the press centers, but they are heavily crowded, especially on trade visitors and media day (August 21st). Coffee, tea, cold drinks and snacks are subject to a charge.

Press accreditation is not yet possible – the link will be activated in time.
