On March 31, 2024, a game was lost forever. It is The Crew. Released on December 2, 2014, it was one of the first games of Uplaythe studio's online service platform Ubisoftwhich was released a day before the game. This one is, nowadays, not one of the best known of the license, but the game created by Ivory Tower still had a small, loyal community. On top of that, even people who have the physical version of the game can no longer play it. Players, who have difficulty accepting this loss, wish to prevent the purchase of the latest opus of the saga and Star Wars Outlaws.

The preservation of video games in danger

The Crew first of the name was thought of as an MMO. A huge map, a constant internet connection and players linked together by the map or competitive races. This recipe did not work as well as one might think, since the servers were simply closed on March 31. You would think that it would have been possible to play in offline mode, that Ubisoft would allow players who have a physical version of the game to enjoy this map for a while longer. We could think about mods! It would have been possible to have fun, while visually improving this game which was already several years old, but this is not the case. The studio revoked the license to buyers of The Crew. The racing game is now impossible to launch, even if you still have the game installed on your PC. It is important to clarify that this practice is completely legal.

Following this, a wave of hatred swept over the latest opus of the saga: The Crew Motofest. This one was already released last year, but players are calling not to buy this game when it releases on Steam this April 18. Since it costs 70 euros on console, or 18 euros per month via Ubisoft+, we can think that it will have the same price when it is released on Steam. The system of this latest game in the license is exactly the same as that of 2014: there is no offline mode. It is therefore no surprise that many think that this opus will suffer the same fate in 10 years.

The small community of a few hundred players is particularly saddened by this loss, but it is also the video gaming world which is taking a hit. The production of Ivory Tower has simply disappeared forever.

Star Wars Outlaws too?

Indeed, the future triple A of Ubisoft suffered the wrath of fans The Crew. On the one hand, many complain about the different prices of the game. But on the other hand, a misunderstanding has led many people to think that Star Wars Outlaws would also be playable only via an internet connection. This news still made its way onto social media. However, Ubisoft clarified that this production Star Wars would indeed be playable offline. What will require a connection, however, will be the launch updates that will arrive for people who have the game in physics. News that pleases those who were afraid that this new triple A would suffer the same fate as The Crew in the future.

“Don’t buy it!” Players are furious with Ubisoft and Star Wars Outlaws, to the point of organizing to boycott the PC release of this other title in their catalog

Ubisoft knows what he wants to do. Even if the complaints continue to arise, they count get players used to not owning their gamesexactly as they said a few months ago.
