Call companions and find them again

Unless you are traveling with them, your companions always go to the settlement you send them to. We recommend that you determine a permanent settlement for all your companions. This way you always know where everyone is. However, some settlements are so large that you end up running around aimlessly without finding your companion.

Helps you with this problem the workshop object bell, which, when activated, gathers all the settlers of a location and also your companions at the location of the bell.

This is how you set up the bell:

Go into “construction mode” within a workshop settlement. Select the “Resources” category. Select the “Other” sub-item. Here you can build the bell for 4x wood and 4x steel. Find an open place for the bell can reach quickly.

We'll tell you how to get the materials you need for construction in our guide to recycling scrap.

We'll show you how you can quickly and easily find your companions in Fallout 4 in the following video:

Dogmeat gone? This is how you find him

Unfortunately, the bell method doesn't work for the dog companion Dogmeat. He usually stays stubbornly in his doghouse. The problem is that many settlements (e.g. Sanctuary) already have several dog houses, all of which he considers his home. If Dogmeat has disappeared, proceed as follows.

First search a newly developed settlement for all dog houses. Recycle all dog houses except one. Pick them up and place them in a place that is easy for you to see (e.g. near your spawn point after a fast travel).

Goes this way Dogmeat is no longer lost and you always know where he is.

Change and equip companions

With the bell you can quickly gather all your companions in a settlement and easily switch between them. To do this, simply talk to a companion and select the “Send Away” dialog option. Or you can talk directly to the new companion you want to take with you. In this way, you can also equip companions by handing them your excess weapons and armor via the trade window. And if you have one too many power armor, you can also assign them one that they should get into using a command.
