For a hefty sum, racing game fans can lie down in a seat that was created in cooperation with Formula 1 and has been on sale since this week.
While buying a racing steering wheel can significantly increase the immersion of games like “Gran Turismo 7” or “F1” titles from Electronic Arts, there is another level of expansion: racing seats ensure the right seating experience.

PlaySeat has a particularly expensive example on offer. With the “Playseat Formula Intelligence – F1 Edition” the first product in collaboration with Formula 1 came onto the market. It's a costly undertaking.
Tailor-made and innovative racing experience promised
The frame is made from reinforced carbon steel and allows the use of high-end Direct Drive steering wheels and high pressure pedal sets, with an optional Direct Drive Pro adapter available. The scope of delivery includes an adjustable racing seat made of black PU leather.
The base model of the “Formula Intelligence F1 Edition Chassis” has an integrated VESA monitor mount that should work with most monitors.
According to Playseat, the F1 model is compatible with all steering wheels and pedal sets and can be used in combination with consoles or PC. The manufacturer sets an upper limit when it comes to weight. If possible, users should not weigh more than 122 kilograms.

Emily Prazer, Chief Commercial Officer of Formula 1, said of the collaboration with Playseat: “We are always looking for new ways to bring Formula 1 closer to our audience, be it by creating unforgettable moments at a Grand Prix or by engaging with it Sport away from the racetrack.”
The partnership with Playseat will offer players “a tailored, innovative and realistic racing experience to bring the action one step closer to home”.

The new partnership will ultimately produce products in various price categories. According to the manufacturer, they are developed in cooperation with Formula 1 drivers and experienced simulator racing drivers to “imitate the exact dimensions of the cockpit of a real Formula 1 car”.
If a new steering wheel is enough for you: Fanatec has been offering a new edition of the Gran Turismo Wheel for some time now. The DD-Extreme has, among other things, adapted controls and an OLED display. For that around 1,300 euros are due.
