Elden Ring is a very deep game, and obviously, it could have been even deeper with this new secret discovered. It's simply impressive

As the release of the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion for Elden Ring nears, dataminers continue to reveal secrets hidden in the base game, including underground maps that were never used. Elden Ring still has secrets

Newly unearthed maps by YouTuber Sekiro Dubi, who previously discovered other unused features earlier in the year, show underground areas that could have been integrated via a cataclysm system. This system would have made it possible to radically modify the game world, The Lands Between, during the game. The areas, while not containing much other than the basic blue and green polygon world shapes, are complex and show FromSoftware's initial ambition for Elden Ring.

The envisaged cataclysm system would have, like certain changes already present in the game following specific events such as the defeat of the boss Starscourge Radahn, transformed known areas by introducing new play areas. Sekiro Dubi notably explores a new sector accessible via a small hole at the bottom of a crater in a boss arena.

A game of great depth

The discovery of these unused cards highlights not only the depth of Elden Ring's development, but also the unfinished nature of some of its most ambitious elements. This also illustrates the difficulty for large-scale game developers like FromSoftware to balance between creative ambition and technical or time constraints.

Since its release in 2022, Elden Ring has established itself as a cultural phenomenon, captivating players' attention with its many secrets and open world. The gaming community has explored this world in a wide variety of ways. The announcement of the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, scheduled for June 21, has reignited general interest in the game, promising new adventures and mysteries to discover.
