Disappointing Outcome: The Flaws of FF7 Rebirth

FF7 Rebirth is acclaimed by players and critics alike, and yet its sales figures are not up to par everywhere. What is going on ?

We surely all agree that FF7 Rebirth is a pure marvel. The feedback from players and critics is clear, we are dealing with a great game. So obviously, we say that sales will follow. Well, not quite. At least, this is not the case in a certain country, and given the issue, it is quite surprising. Don't the players there like it as much? The most surprising thing in all this is that he did not manage to match the score of one of his elders.

FF7 Rebirth does not explode sales in Japan

The new opus of the franchise is smashing everything. It's a hit, and that's undeniable. Well, here maybe, but not in Japan. The least we can say is that its performance is far from convincing, whereas normally, the license enjoys great success in this country. To give you an idea, during the first week following its release, FF7 Rebirth did not manage to exceed the sales figures of Final Fantasy 16 over the same period. That said, he could have made up for it on the second. Well, not really.

For its second week in Japan, FF7 Rebirth posted sales of 24,867 copies, which is not particularly high for a title in the franchise. Such a sales figure doesn't often happen in the case of a Final Fantasy, or at least for the most recent ones. Afterwards, it’s up to nuance. Indeed, we must keep in mind that this statistic only includes the physical versions of the game. Let us also remember that it still sold 263,000 copies during the first week. This remains a good score, but well below that of an FF16 or FF7 Remake.

In themselves, these sales figures can be explained. For example, we must take into account players who were disappointed by FF7 Remake and who prefer to wait for feedback from others before launching into Rebirth. They may still be hesitant now, which gives us the beginning of an explanation. But we must also weigh in the balance the fact that it is a PS5 exclusive. Unlike the PlayStation 4, it was not necessarily sold as much in Japan, to name just one. So, it's difficult to get the game without the machine to run it. After all, these are just theories from the community, so take this with a grain of salt.
