Originally planned as a new Star Wars film, Rebel Moon is now its own thing: Zack Snyder's big sci-fi two-parter will be completed on Netflix on Friday, April 19, 2024 after The Scar Maker may not be over at all.

Zack Snyder wants to make Rebel Moon 3 – and more

Zack Snyder reveals in a new interview Forbes, that he is already working on Rebel Moon: Part 3. Snyder says:

As far as the story is concerned, we are definitely already working on a third part. We know where we're headed – to be honest, we've known for a while. So yeah, I'm really excited to do more Rebel Moon movies – that would be fun.

No concrete confirmation: You may have already noticed that Snyder is not 100 percent confirmed that Rebel Moon 3 and other installments are coming. It's very possible that he hasn't even gotten the green light from Netflix yet.

Whether Zack Snyder makes more Rebel Moon for Netflix will depend heavily on the number of views of the two parts Child of Fire and The Scar Maker. At some point in 2024 – probably in August – the six(!) hour long director's cut of the sci-fi adventure will follow.

At least among many critics and not too few viewers, Rebel Moon has so far been anything but well received. Part 1 is coming up Rotten Tomatoes just a mere 21 percent and we were anything but enthusiastic in our film review of Child of Fire. It remains to be seen whether Part 2: The Scar Maker will turn things around on Netflix on April 19, 2024.

Is Rebel Moon too expensive and bad? Since Netflix wants to focus more on cheaper and better productions in the future, this could be critical for Rebel Moon and Zack Snyder. Both parts that have been released so far have consumed a budget of at least 170 million US dollars and the streaming service is probably not too happy with the current response.
