Deciding Between Recycling and Selling Items in Diablo 4

In this guide to Diablo 4, we'll clarify whether you should sell, recycle or even store unusable items. Image source: Screenshot GIGA The inventory is full, the most suitable pieces of equipment have been created and the portal back to the city is open. But what are you supposed to do with all this stuff now? Sell it at the dealer, recycle it at the blacksmith or would it be better to keep it in the loot chest? We'll tell you what's worth it. Recycle items at the blacksmith If you want to recycle items, you have to go to a blacksmith. The items will be broken during the process, but in return you will receive important crafting materials. And you should collect these materials at least until the midgame (around level 50). The reason for this is simple: The initial items are hardly worth anything and you need enough forging materials to upgrade… …rings and amulets at the jeweler in the later stages of the game. …upgrade weapons and armor at the blacksmith. …to impress aspects on the occultist or to enchant objects. Another good reason for recycling is that you get the same materials regardless of the item's level requirement. Legendary items with low level requirements give you the same materials as items with high level requirements. The rarity of the items alone determines how rare the materials you can receive are. Selling items We recommend that you only sell your items in midgame. Once you've reached the midgame of Diablo 4, it pays to sell items. Most item sales prices in this character level range are between 8,000 and 15,000 gold (with outliers in both directions). If you have always recycled everything you have received up to that point, you will be equipped with enough manufacturing materials to last you for a while. What we advise against, however, is selling legendary items. Legendary items always have so-called aspects that you can extract from the occultist in order to imprint them on other items. These are special properties that, for example, give you new passive buffs or improve skills that you can learn. To imprint certain aspects on an item, you need rare crafting materials (Writhing Ward, Abstruse Seal, or Ominous Fragment), which can only be obtained by recycling legendary equipment. If you sell legendary items, you have no opportunity to win these rare resources. Therefore the recommendation: If you don't need the aspect of a legendary item, recycle it at the blacksmith. But if you can do something with the aspect sooner or later, keep the item in the loot chest until the time comes.
