We have twelve of our policemen who are on duty in Croatia, explained Mariusz Ciarka, spokesman of the Polish Police Headquarters on TVN24. “Polish policemen from Rijeka are at the scene of the tragedy, and those serving in the vicinity of Zagreb were sent to hospitals where the wounded were placed” – the Police Headquarters informed on Twitter. Ciarka explained that cooperation with the Croatian authorities will include, inter alia, linguistic support and securing passengers’ personal belongings.

In a tragic coach accident in Croatia, 12 Poles died, and several dozen are injured to varying degrees. It took place on Saturday at around 5.40 am on the A4 motorway, north of Zagreb, in the Varajdina region, between Jarek Bisaszki and Podvorec. The bus was carrying a group of pilgrims from Poland.

Inspector Mariusz Ciarka, spokesman of the Police Commander in Chief on TVN24 spoke about the tasks of Polish policemen currently in Croatia. – I would like to remind you that we have twelve of our policemen on the spot who are on duty in Croatia, they are on duty, inter alia, because there are incidents involving Poles there, unfortunately it also happens that they are injured – he added, referring to the tragic coach accident carrying Polish pilgrims.
Ciarka said that the two policemen who were on the outgoing service “should be on the spot and be at the disposal of the Croatian emergency services.” – On the other hand, the policemen serving near Zagreb have been sent to hospitals and they will serve at the disposal of Croatian services, because they decide on the spot and conduct the rescue operation – he described.
A similar message was posted by the Police Headquarters on Twitter.
“Polish policemen serving in Croatia were directed to help Croatian services. Polish policemen from Rijeka are on the scene of the tragedy, and those serving in the vicinity of Zagreb were sent to hospitals where the wounded were placed” – we read in a communiqué published in social media. “We express our condolences to the families” – added.
Inspector Ciarka spoke on TVN24 about the details of the tasks of Polish policemen in Croatia in connection with the accident.
– We were asked, inter alia, to assist in, for example, interpreting the talks with the victims. The policemen who were referred to the scene of the road accident will probably also take part in securing the luggage and personal belongings of our countrymen, the victims and those who, unfortunately, died on the spot. From the information I have, there are supposedly a lot of this luggage – explained the KGP spokesman.
He added that the officers will also help with translations to the prosecutor’s office and Croatian services.
