CD Projekt has more than 400 developers on the next The Witcher – News

Proof of the solidity From its situation, 2023 was, after 2020, CD Projekt's second best year economically with a turnover of 228.8 million euros and a net profit of 104.2 million euros. In addition to the 2.0 update which benefited Cyberpunk 2077its extension Phantom Liberty was released in September and met with significant critical and commercial success. Franchise Cyberpunk 2077 has just reached a milestone by generating more than 3 billion złotys (696 million euros) in just over 3 years. As financial director Piotr Nielubowicz explains, having allowed the franchise to reconnect with a positive feeling is crucial for CD Projekt which intends to release a new episode, code name Orion. Still at the concept stage, Orion is currently surrounded by a team of 47 developers based in a new studio in Boston, founded by the people responsible for the success of Phantom Liberty. At the same time, a project live action is in preparation at Anonymous Content following the great reception given to the animated series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners by Trigger studio.

But most of CD Projekt's strike force is today focused on Polaris, the first chapter of the new The Witcher trilogy. Although it is still at the pre-production stage, serious things have begun since the game team is now 403 developers strong. This figure could further increase with a view to launching the production phase in the second half of 2024. CD Projekt also has 37 developers engaged in the pre-production of Sirius, a multiplayer game The Witcher whose development restarted last spring, costing layoffs at The Molasses Flood studio, the CD Projekt subsidiary in charge of the project. The Polish studio Fool's Theory, which has just released The Thaumaturge at 11 bit studios, is no further along on its remake of the first The Witcher which is still at the concept stage (even before pre-production, therefore).

Even more distant, Hadar is the code name of the new license that CD Projekt aims to build to make it a third major pillar alongside The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077. Around twenty developers are currently drawing the contours of this brand new universe. Finally, if CD Projekt did not meet with success with its mobile game The Witcher: Monster Slayer which closed in June 2023, co-CEO Michał Nowakowski confirmed during the question-and-answer session that discussions are underway with companies specializing in mobile to allow them to create The Witcher or Cyberpunk 2077 games, if the opportunity presented itself.

Remember that CD Projekt crossed the spectacular milestone of 100 million games sold in 2023 just by combining its main titles, which are The Witcher trilogy (75 million sales including 50 million The Witcher 3) And Cyberpunk 2077 (25 million sales). Added to this are the 5 million sales of Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty.
