Capcom confirms its sparkling form with another record year – News

Very smart who can say how far Capcom will go. Yet not helped (or very little) by mobile games, unlike its Japanese rivals like Konami, Square Enix and Koei Tecmo, the publisher continues its performances by relying on a handful of large licenses which, episode after episode, enrich a back catalog whose role has become fundamental with the democratization of dematerialized games. Close to a billion euros in turnover, Capcom closed its annual financial year with an operating profit of 341 million euros and a net profit of 261 million euros, record figures in all three areas, for a good operating margin of 38.8%.

And it's not finished yet. For the financial year from April 2024 to March 2025, Capcom is already banking on further growth with a turnover of 986 million euros, an operating profit of 382 million euros and a net profit of 275 million euros. euros. With a goal of 50 million games to be sold in the coming months, suffice to say that the release of at least one title of the caliber of Monster Hunter Wilds before the end of the year seems essential, because Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess seems a little light to lead the charge.

Constantly increasing sales on PC

In the meantime, Capcom has sold more games than ever: 45.89 million units sold between April 2023 and March 2024, a record to which successes like Resident Evil 4 (7 million sales), Street Fighter 6 ( 3.3 million sales) and Dragon's Dogma 2 (2.6 million sales) but also the usual pillars of the back catalog, including Monster Hunter World which took the opportunity to exceed 25 million copies and consolidate its status as the most popular game sold in Capcom's history, this while the franchise passes the 100 million mark. Awakened by the release of its successor, Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen totaled 7.5 million sales, including 1.6 million over the past year. A word also on Resident Evil 7 which has exceeded one million sales each year since its release in 2017 and whose total now stands at more than 13 million.

In all, 15 Capcom games exceeded one million sales during the financial year, compared to 9 the previous year, but the unfortunate Exoprimal does not seem to be one of them. The back catalog represents 36.29 million games sold compared to 29.3 million a year earlier. Capcom emphasizes that the PC is an essential lever for its growth: thanks to Steam, the publisher has sold hundreds of different titles in 235 countries and regions. In this financial year in particular, sales of PC games reached a record of 21.6 million sales (17.7 million a year earlier), which represents 47% of the total. Sales of boxed games represent 4.5 million sales (10% of the total) and Capcom expects them to decline further next fiscal year (3.4 million sales, 7% of the total). Finally, note that Capcom had 3,399 employees as of March 31, 2024 compared to 3,187 a year earlier.
