Breakthrough in sub-flagship cameras thanks to new sensors from Sony IMX903 and IMX907

New top cameras for mere mortals

The Sony IMX989 inch sensor was a real breakthrough for the industry and brought the quality of photos to a whole new level, but it is put only in super-flagship smartphones with a slightly shocking price for most users.

Manufacturers cannot put such sensors in sub-flagships, not only because of their cost, but also for marketing reasons.Super flagships need to be unique to justify their high price tag.Something a little worse, but also modern, Sony simply did not have, and many smartphones received the IMX 890 much simpler.

Things are about to change very soon as the company plans to announce two new top sensors that are slightly smaller than the 989 but still have cool specs. As it became known, the first – IMX907 will have a 50 MP matrix with a size of 1/1.12″.The second one will be called IMX903 and will be slightly smaller – 1 / 1.14 ”with a corresponding reduction in resolution to 48 megapixels.

The pixel size in both cases is 1.4 µm.Such modules can already be installed in the usual numbered flagships of manufacturers, as well as in sub-flagship solutions, and such a step will bring the level of photography to a higher level. The first devices with these matrices may be available in the fall, and this will be a significant step forward for the mobile photo industry.
