The new version of Seven

An essential film in the filmography of David Fincher, but also of his favorite actor Brad Pitt, Seven is about to be released in a completely new restored version. A remastering work which occurs almost thirty years after the initial release of the film. With this new version, David Fincher intends to offer the best to his fans by supervising this 4K remastering himself. However, the substance of the film should remain intact while this new version must only undergo visual changes.

“I'm not going to take all the guns out of people's hands and replace them with flashlights. But there's a lot of shit to fix“, declared the director in 2023 in reference to the new version of ET proposed by Steven Spielberg for the 20th anniversary of the film. “I'm fundamentally against any change to Seven's essence. It is possible to resolve 3 or 5% of the problems. If something is obvious, it needs to be addressed.“, he then added.

A French release to plan?

No major changes to be expected for Seven, but improvement work important enough to motivate a theatrical release. The 4K version of the cult thriller will be offered to spectators at the TCM Classic Film Festival next month in the United States, before a potential release in American theaters. But what about France?

To tell the truth, nothing is certain. It is not uncommon to see such events occur in French cinemas, but for the moment, no distributor has picked up this copy. That being said, the 4K version will at least reach us on Blu-Ray since a new collector's edition of the film is scheduled for release next December. We will therefore follow this release closely.
