BlizzCon 2024 won't happen, but it's not because of Microsoft | Xbox

As summer is fast approaching and with it the period of conferences and other video game-related trade shows, we discover today that the famous BlizzCon, which is traditionally held at the end of the year, will unfortunately not take place in 2024.

No BlizzCon in 2024

In a communicated published yesterday, Blizzard announces that after a long reflection, the company has made the decision not to organize BlizzCon this year:

After much thought over the past year, we have made the decision not to organize BlizzCon in 2024. This decision was not taken lightly, because BlizzCon remains an event that is very dear to us , and we know it's also a moment many of you are looking forward to. Our approach is different this year, and we've explored other formats in the past, but one thing's for sure: we're still excited to see BlizzCon return in the years to come.

At first glance, one might think that this decision is the responsibility of Microsoft following the acquisition of Activision-Blizzard, but this is not the case. In an article published in the columns of Windows Centrala Blizzard spokesperson confirmed that it was a company-specific decision, citing that the timing was “simply not right for a one-off event at the end of the year”:

This is a Blizzard decision. We've explored different event formats in the past and this isn't the first time we've skipped BlizzCon or tried something new. While we have big things to share in 2024, the timing just isn't right for a one-off event at the end of the year.

See you at the Xbox conference?

If BlizzCon 2024 is canceled, Blizzard still plans to talk about its games, starting with World of Warcraft: The War Within as well as the first expansion of Diablo IV, Vessel of Hatred, while several events will take place around the world to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Warcraft:

Over the coming months, we'll share more information about the year's launches, including World of Warcraft: The War Within and Diablo IV's first expansion, Vessel of Hatred. To celebrate these future releases and to bring our communities together in a new and special way, we will soon share information about other trade shows and conventions such as Gamescom.

We can't wait to tell you more! We're also looking forward to the Overwatch Champions Series at DreamHack Dallas and DreamHack Stockholm. Finally, we will have the pleasure of organizing several on-site events around the world to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Warcraft. These will complement the festivities that will take place in the various games inspired by Warcraft in 2024.

We hope that these experiences, as well as several other live-streamed events during which we will tell you about the latest news from the worlds of our games, will allow you to rediscover what makes the Blizzard community so special.

We imagine that Blizzard will also be able to take advantage of Xbox events and in particular the Xbox Games Showcase which will take place at the beginning of June to communicate about its franchises.

Let's also hope that BlizzCon will quickly return for fans of the brand, who generally take advantage of the opportunity to get together and celebrate the studio's emblematic licenses.
