PUBG: Battlegrounds is one of the first Battl Royale type games to be successful and it is almost seven years after its release that the game will undergo a metamorphosis to go under a new engine. The opportunity for developers to release a bunch of new features for this year 2024.

PUBG's 2024 roadmap in detail

Krafton has just revealed the 2024 roadmap for PUBG: Battlegrounds. This aims to “offer new gaming experiences to players throughout the year” and will offer certain improvements to renew its gameplay. Here are all the details.

Destructible environments

The map's destructible environments will be introduced to add a new dynamic layer of strategy and tactics to the game. Players will be able to strategically destroy sections of buildings or construct defensive barriers, opening new avenues of attack or securing areas. These features will be previewed in the upcoming April update, and continued improvements and expansions are planned in the future.

Gameplay Adjustments

Updates for the gunplay are planned every two months, in order to promote a stable ecosystem and offer a greater diversity of choices to players. The Arcade “Gunplay LABS” will serve as a platform for players to test and provide feedback on balance adjustments before wider implementation in the main game. The game also expands survival-focused items with content for more dynamic actions, as well as improved and expanded special modes for a more casual gaming experience.

New game systems and content will also be launched, designed to increase tension and provide new challenges. The team versus team system will allow players to collaborate with their teammates to score points against an opposing team, with rewards for winning teams.

New content and collaborations

Additionally, future updates will bring new experiences to existing maps, retaining the core gameplay while incorporating features and content from new seasons, collaborations or modes.

A range of collaborations and skins, including collaborations with sought-after vehicle brands and unique franchises, as well as progressive weapon skins that reflect player preferences, are on the cards.

Matchmaking improvements

Changes will be made to Matchmaking to ensure a more balanced environment in normal matches. The MMR (Matchmaking Rating) system will be refined to provide fairer competition between players of the same level. Bot behaviors in normal matches will also be improved to provide a more immersive and meaningful experience, with more natural actions and more varied scenarios.

Ranking overhaul

Significant Ranked Play improvements are underway to strengthen the connection between normal matches, Ranked Play, and competitive sports. PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS' new map Rondo will be added to the ranked game's map pool in April, taking into account its future inclusion in esports competitions. New tiered rewards and exclusive rewards for ranked play will be introduced to make ranked play more attractive. Changes to the ranking point system, including a greater emphasis on kills, will allow tiers to more accurately reflect skill levels, with a pilot test planned for April.

To ensure fair play, anti-cheating measures will be intensified, expanding the focus beyond ranked play to include normal matches and all game modes.
