Bethesda squanders success: Fallout 4 destroyed by poor decisions

Fallout 4 has been out for 9 years, but thanks to its popularity it received a free next-gen upgrade. However, this seems to have made the game worse rather than better, as players report countless bugs and errors.

Fallout 4: Is the upgrade more of a downgrade?

“Fallout is not Fallout without bugs,” is often said lovingly by the fans of the game series, who have been loving small, fine and sometimes very funny bugs got used to. Accordingly, there was great joy when Bethesda announced the next-gen upgrade for Fallout 4 around two years ago, which promised some improvements.

This update, which is now more of a current-gen upgrade, was released recently, but seems unfinished. Different players, and there are a lot of them thanks to the Amazon hit series Fallout, report some errors.

Apart from the fact that almost no one notices a significant difference in the graphics, players report, for example lost saves and destroyed mods. In addition, textures seem to be a big problem, as does ultrawide support when wearing power armor (sources: Reddit/Reddit/Reddit).

Things aren't going well with the Steam Deck either. Players report that Bethesda has removed the Fallout 4 launcher and they therefore cannot start the game. Others can start it, but no longer have any graphics settings. Additionally, it is reported that the FPS on the OLED version of the Steam Deck has been halved (source: Reddit).

It is not yet known whether, how and when Bethesda wants to solve these problems.

Fallout series all the better for it

Danger! The upcoming text contains a small spoiler!

While things aren't looking so good for games right now, the future of Amazon Prime's Fallout series looks even brighter. The series is still at the top of the charts, and a second season has already been announced, which is no surprise after the open ending and great success, but good news (source: JustWatch).
