Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden is an Action-RPG developed by Don't Nod and published by Focus Entertainment (which will soon be renamed PulluP Entertainment). He tells us about a couple of two spirit hunters, two star-crossed lovers, Red Mac Raith And Antea Duartewho are also Banishers, having taken an oath of chase away the spirits that torment the living. Taking place in 1695 in New Eden, a fictional region in the American state of Massachusetts, the title mixes RPG components with skill trees, choices to make but also real-time combat using the abilities of the two characters , Red present in the world of the living and Antea in that of the spirits. Your role will be to help settler communities plagued by a haunting curse in order to free them from this source of evil but also frightening mysteries.

The two main characters of the game are the couple formed by Red Mac Raith and Antea Duarte:

  • Red was once a remorseful mercenary, haunted by the ghosts of his past victims. He finally managed to find the path to redemption thanks to Antea's support, thus experiencing perfect love. However, and as his love Antea tragically dies, Red is faced with a chilling dilemma between his lost love and his commitment as a Banisher.
  • After a tragic incident, Antea is killed, leaving her close love alone and plunged into deep despair. Unable to leave him and leave the world of the living, she comes in the form of a ghost, the thing she hates most in the world. Torn between her love, which she was unable to experience in broad daylight, and her disastrous new status, she manages to make Red swear to help her find a way to free her from this nightmare.

Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden is scheduled for February 13 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. No PlayStation 4 or Xbox One version is planned at this time.

What is the gameplay of the game?

As an Action-RPG, you have real-time combat, but with asymmetrical gameplay. Indeed, Red, due to his status as a seasoned banisher, will be the perfect melee fighter, thanks to which he will gradually charge a Banishing gauge capable of delivering devastating attacks. Antea will be able to take advantage of her wandering spirit ability to inflict severe damage on enemies she can take control of. She has several skills intertwined with those of Red, requiring strategic coordination to maximize their effectiveness. Be careful though because if Antea's gauge drops to zero, you won't be able to summon her for a long time.

Like any good game of this type and even more so with Don't Nod, your choices will have important consequences throughout the adventure. Following your meetings with inhabitants tortured by tormented spirits, and thanks to your in-depth investigations in the field, you will have to make a decision: blame the inhabitant alive for his misdeeds, release the spirit and let it go in peace or even the ban and force him to stay in this in-between world never finding peace. But be careful because every decision counts and at the end of the journey you will have to take stock because past choices could come back to haunt you and prevent you from finding the love of your life.

Is the game open world?

Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden has a semi-open structure in large areas where the player can investigate, fight and meet NPCs. You will sometimes find campfires in which you can quickly travel to another destination, rest to replenish your health stock, or even acquire new skills in one of the 3 talent trees or modify and improve your equipment.

Will the game offer a Season Pass?

For now, Focus Entertainment has not announced any additional narrative expansion. The publisher will offer a set of “Wanderer Set” cosmetics for any pre-order or purchase of a physical edition (see below).
