We all know someone who bought two or three copies of a game (usually on different platforms) because they loved a particular game so much. Recently, a player took the vice to the maximum by purchasing no less than 4000 copies of the same game. And the worst part of all this is that they don't even work anymore.

When a fan buys 4000 copies of the same game

Collecting is a hobby that wastes a lot of money on things that not everyone necessarily understands. Whether it's to have all versions of a game or simply to be able to enjoy it in several different conditions, you may know someone who has purchased a video game several times. However, a fan of Remedy games decided to set a new record by purchasing 4,000 copies of the Alan Wake game originally released in 2010.

Real surprise of the year 2023, Alan Wake II has convinced so many players and journalists that it has managed to find a place among the video games competing for the title of game of the year facing juggernauts like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom or Baldur's Gate III, the big winner. It must be said that it took all the qualities of the first episode and pushed them to their climax to create a memorable experience which is likely to mark all the players who touch it. With these two opuses, Remedy has created a mysterious and gripping story which has created many fans, including Alice. In an interview given to PCGamesNshe explains her love for Alan Wake:

What I like most about Alan Wake and Remedy's games in general is the way they tell a story and their attention to detail. The world of Alan Wake 2 feels real, and there is so much hidden lore that many players will miss. A lot of this lore is just weird and charming. And Sam Lake is a genius.

Some time ago, this Alan Wake fan spotted an offer on eBay which didn't take long to catch her eye. A seller actually offered to part with two boxes full of Alan Wake download codes against 240 dollars. A relatively low price when we know that these two boxes contained 4000 copies of the game. To give you an idea, the weight of each box still reached 25kg, for a total of 50kg of Alan Wake codes.

A completely valid reason

Unfortunately, Remedy's game download codes don't appear to have been activated by the store that must have received them in the first place. Indeed, after trying around twenty codes, Alisa came to the conclusion that none of the codes worked. A detail that could have annoyed more than one, but which didn't really stop this fan from enjoying her purchase. Asked why she bought these two boxes full of Alan Wake codes, the fan replied:

The shortest answer would be “It’s funny”. The longest answer is that I'm making a video inspired by the live action cinematics of Alan Wake 2, and as soon as I saw the 4000 copies of Alan Wake on offer on eBay, I visualized a scene that could use a ridiculous number of these tricks. Once it's done, I'll probably cover a wall in my room with these cards, because it looks fun. And then, I just really like Alan Wake.

In the end, it is not that uncommon to spend several hundred euros or dollars on a collectible item or an object that is close to our hearts. So when we know that these 4000 copies will also be used to make a fan film inspired by Alan Wake, it is ultimately a little easier to understand this purchase. We hope that Alisa will never regret her purchaseand that the people who see the wall of her room covered with game codes will not think she is too crazy.
