After two decades, World of Warcraft could finally be coming to console – and it’s not a prank

WoW on consoles, Blizzard is still talking about it

World of Warcraft on consoles, a sweet dream about to become reality? Without revealing any specific details, World of Warcraft vice president and executive producer Holly Longdale explained in an interview with VGC that Blizzard was still considering such a port. When asked about the console version of WoW, the VP said: “ of course we still talk about it. We are gamers, I don't think there is anything that depends on the realm of the impossible, but we have nothing to reveal at the moment“. During BlizzCon 2023, Holly Longdale was already referring to a console version of the famous MMORPG.

We have these three expansions and we are so excited. But yes of course. It would be dishonest to say that we're not… of course we're talking about it. We're part of Microsoft now.

A buyout that could make things easier

With this previous statement, Holly Longdale highlights Blizzard's belonging to Microsoft, an acquisition that could potentially make things easier. Even before this acquisition, Blizzard had already taken a step forward towards consoles by carrying the Diablo license. Now, the studio can also benefit from the expertise of other Microsoft-owned studios that have reached a similar milestone.

For the moment therefore, nothing has yet been officially announced, even if Blizzard is still considering a port of its most famous game on consoles. In the meantime, the studio is working on the three future expansions for World of Warcraft: The War Within, Midnight' And The Last Titan. Blizzard now wants to offer players a true epic which should span these three expansions. The first chapter of this new adventure will begin this year with the release of The War Within.
