Adobe incorporates Firefly Image 3 generative AI model into newest Photoshop release

At its Adobe Max event in London, the firm unveiled the integration of its latest generative AI functions in Photoshop, its Adobe Firefly Image 3 generative AI model as well as other new features.

The latest version of Photoshop builds on the Firefly Image 3 model for tasks like generative fill, generating an image, directly integrated into Photoshop workflows. On this point, Adobe says that the Generate Image tool allows you to achieve unique results even faster and accelerate creativity, regardless of skill level.

These functions make it possible to generate an infinite number of background variations, to create a multitude of design concepts, with specific styles and colors, and to bring detailed scenes to life while maintaining absolute control, promises the firm. The latest version of Photoshop is available today in the Photoshop desktop app (in beta) and will be available to everyone later this year.

Firefly Image 3 takes the creative possibilities to the next level

Last May, Photoshop's Generative Fill and Generative Develop tools – newly integrated into Creative Cloud – generated strong enthusiasm from users: more than 7 billion images have already been generated with Firefly since its launch, and the he Generative Fill tool was adopted 10x faster than other Photoshop flagship features.

With Firefly Image 3, Adobe hopes to reach as many users as possible. The generative AI model was trained on licensed content, including from Adobe Stock. “This template was designed to generate content that is usable in a commercial context, and does not infringe copyright or other intellectual property rights, such as trademarks and logos.”, specifies the firm. Wishing to disseminate its tools to as many people as possible, it goes so far as to specify that it offers its customers intellectual property compensation for content generated using Firefly.

Be as transparent as possible regarding AI-generated content

Adobe also specifies that creations generated using its AI solutions will automatically be matched with “Content Credentials”. Concretely, this information is metadata which provides additional information about the content and indicates in particular whether AI was used in the creation or editing process. Content Credentials were developed by the Content Authenticity Initiative (CAI) led by Adobe, founded in 2019.
