Netflix wanted to create a saga and not just any saga, a saga which would have the potential to create an exploitable universe for other productions such as series. Director Zack Snyder had to create this universe with his own hands by offering 2 first films. Indeed, the sequel to the first part was released on April 19 and presents worse stats than the first part. The second part Rebel Moon: The Slasher still totaled 44.2 million hours watched, which represents a total of 21.4 million views. However, these are lower numbers than the first part released last December. The first part recorded 54.1 million hours watched for an estimated 23.9 million views. All of these figures could be good, but these results are not satisfactory in proportion to the allocated budget.

The future of the saga already called into question?

The story of Kora and her village does not seem to have won over the public, and this could worry Netflix about a potential sequel. Indeed, Zack Snyder seems to be called into question, even though he managed to obtain permission to shoot the first two films at the same time. The American director nevertheless announced that the saga could consist of 6 episodes. The end of the second part opens to a sequel, in which we can imagine a rebellion with more suppressed ranks. However, Netflix still does not no official announcement made for a sequel. The fact that Rebel Moon 2 did not have a promotional campaign worthy of the first part is not reassuring for a potential third episode.

Yet Zack Snyder still has a card up his sleeve with the release of the director's cut planned for this summer! Moreover, it is an exercise in which the director succeeds well. Fans are generally not disappointed with these releases. Snyder's last two films confirm that the American is more of a specialist in image than in writing characters and plot. This summer, the director's cuts will play a crucial role in deciding the continuation of the saga.
