Yasumaru Matsumoto Replaces Resigned Hiroki Ohmae as Unity Japan President; Ohmae Returns to Gaming

Unity Technologies Japan (Unity Japan) announced a change in its representative director and president on February 5, 2024. Mr. Yasumaro Matsumoto, executive officer and general manager of the industrial sales division, will take over the position of Mr. Hiroki Omae, who has served as representative director since February 2023. Additionally, Mr. Matsumoto will concurrently hold the position of General Manager of the Industrial Sales Division in Japan, as well as the same position in South Korea.

Mr. Ohmae, former CEO, worked on game development as a programmer at FromSoftware and other companies, and since 2010 has been engaged in activities to popularize Unity in the Japanese market. He participated in the launch of Unity Technologies Japan, Unity's Japanese subsidiary, in September 2011, and became the company's representative director in February 2023. It has been announced that he will become an advisor to the company after his retirement.

Mr. Hiroki Ohmae

Mr. Ohmae commented on his own X, “I am grateful to Unity for listening to my selfishness and for understanding my desire to return to making games someday.'' His profile text reads “Gamer (planned),” indicating his intention to become involved in game development again.

The new president, Mr. Matsumoto, has worked at KDDI, Hewlett-Packard Japan, and SAP Japan, where he has also been involved in business related to automobile companies. After joining Autodesk in 2015, he held various positions including general sales manager for automobile companies in Japan and South Korea, and sales manager for major Japanese customers including major game companies, and joined Unity Technologies Japan in November 2021. . Since January 2023, he has served as Executive Officer and General Manager of Industrial Sales Division.
