Xiaomi Pad 7 – versatile and affordable

Strong cooperation with the phone

A tablet does not have to be expensive. For SEK 4000 you will not get many of today's mobile phones, but for example a tablet like this particular Xiaomi Pad 7.

Rear camera a disappointment

The speakers a bit jarge at high volume

I start the test out in the spring sun. On a cliff with views of Lake Mälaren I can easily see the screen and it is actually better in the still quite weak sunlight at this time of year, when I compare with my laptop. Xiaomi Pad 7 does not have the coveted OLED screen that usually makes tablets something really extra, but here we have to settle for LCD but as I said with good brightness anyway. Xiaomi Pad 7 also has more ace in the rock sleeve which makes it feel like more than a budget model.

The screen that is 11.2 inches is large enough for you to both enjoy entertainment in the form of movies and at the same time be productive. The plate has four speakers, two on each short side and they provide a well -balanced sound that is good enough when I watch film in any case up to about 70 percent volume. Then it starts to sound scary, but 70 percent are good enough.

The screen is easily divided into several parts with apps of different sizes side by side. There is also a more computer -like mode where the apps are in windows in stock.

For productivity, I can clearly share the screen and use several apps at the same time. It is possible to share for two apps, and I can adjust where I want the boundary between the two to go. In addition, I can have two additional apps in liquid windows and thanks to being minimized when I do not use them they become easily accessible without disturbing. Xiaomi Pad 7 also has a computer mode where I can open apps in separate windows and can place them over each other, but it is quite limited.

Well integrated with the phone

Really impressive is Xiaomi Pad 7 when I get home. If you have an Xiaomi phone with the latest software, you can get that phone's screen directly on the tablet. This is handled wirelessly and assumes that you are connected with both devices to the same WiFi and are logged in to the same Xiaomi account. When I have the phone on charge in the room next door, I can still have full control, which is smooth. I can start apps and fully use the phone remotely. Sound is played locally so I watch movies on Instagram or open Spotify so the sound comes in the plate, not on the phone, even though the app practically is on the phone.

On the back of the unit we find a camera module that was clearly inspired by Xiaomis recognized good phones right in the camera area. It looks at first glance therefore trustworthy. That impression is ruined partly when I start using the camera and take a closer look at the camera module. Because even though it is a large protruding camera module in square, it is just a camera. The other three are text, photo lamp and just painted ring that does nothing. The only camera then does not hold any high quality and we do not get anything that can even compete with Xiaomi's mobiles. So the tablets' cameras are used mainly for video calls and there at least deliver the recessed camera in the screen according to our expectations, as soon as I shut down all automatic beauty filters.

Questions and answers

Does the screen have a quick update?

Yes, it has a total of 144 Hertz's update, but even if the plate itself and the interface feels fast, they will not really come to its right, because it is an LCD screen.

How fast charging?

The battery is on a pretty generous 8850 mAh, but the 45W charging means that it takes a long time to charge the plate and some charger does not come along.

What accessories are there?

Xiaomi manufactures cases, keyboards (without buttons for Åäö) and Påkpenna, but none of these can be purchased at the Swedish store at Mi.com where the plate is sold. According to Xiaomi, they will come out only in June.

Camera example

The Selfie camera for video calls is good as long as you turn off the beauty filters (narrower, smoother skin, bigger eyes) so we have here. The rear camera is a real disappointment, with colorless, flat images without mood to the depth and the color rendering xiaomis better phones provide.

An alternative

Lenovo Idea Tab Pro is a comparable tablet at about the same price level, but if you want OLED screen, which makes a lot for the experience, Samsung's Galaxy Tab S9 belongs to the cheapest, but it has just over a year on the neck and costs SEK 6000 at the time of writing, 2000 more than Xiaomi Pad 7.
