Privacy display, more battery, better cameras and screen on the back
Xiaomi has launched its Xiaomi 18 Pro and Xiaomi 18 Pro Max, confirmed the camera specifications, privacy display and that a global release will come later this year.
The Xiaomi 18 Pro series are the first phones to be released with Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 system chip, but it is far from the only news. The phones also have a screen that prevents others standing next to you from peeking at the screen, a so-called Privacy Display. Xiaomi has thus taken after Samsung, but developed the concept further and allows you to hide individual apps, as well as individual notifications from the apps you selected. At the same time, the technology here should have less impact on the image quality for those who see the screen directly from the front.
The Xiaomi 18 Pro has a 6.4-inch screen, while the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max has a 6.9-inch screen.
Last year’s Xiaomi Pro models introduced the extra screens on the back of the phones, to, for example, show notifications, act as a viewfinder for the camera and to show the time. However, the Xiaomi 17 Pro series was never launched in Europe, but this time we have been confirmed that the Xiaomi 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max will have a global launch already this year. According to information to Mobil, this could happen as early as the end of November.
During today’s presentation of the phones for the Chinese market, Xiaomi shared details about the phones’ specifications. Here, for example, we learned that the Xiaomi 18 Pro has a battery of 7000 mAh, while the 18 Pro Max gets one of 8500 mAh. Precise battery capacity may differ between the Chinese variants and the global version, but other characteristics are believed to be equivalent.
Xiaomi often has a clear focus on cameras, with its collaboration with Leica, and the Xiaomi 18 Pro series is no exception. despite the fact that we didn’t get to see any 18 Ultra today, which is instead expected later. Xiaomi 18 Pro was presented today with two 200 megapixel camera sensors and one 50 megapixel.
The main camera in the Xiaomi 18 Pro series has a 1/1.28 inch sensor and was presented as particularly good at providing a wide dynamic range and good color reproduction. We got to see several comparisons with pictures taken with Apple’s newly launched iPhone 18 Pro. The main camera in the Xiaomi 18 Pro has a ƒ/1.67 large aperture and thus not like the iPhone variable aperture.
The wide angle in the Xiaomi 18 Pro series is 50 megapixels and has an ƒ/2.4 aperture with a 102 degree angle of view. Finally, we have the telephoto lens which has 3.2 times optical zoom with periscope lens and 200 megapixel sensor, 1/1.56 inch, significantly larger than both the predecessor Xiaomi 17 Pro (1/2 inch) and the new Iphone 18 Pro Max (1/2.55 inch).
