Xbox titles with poorer image quality and performance on PS5

The former Xbox title from Obsidian Entertainment is a little weaker on the PS5. Digital Foundry reported on this today.

Microsoft's “Grounded” has also been available for the PlayStation 5 since April 16th. But the survival adventure doesn't look as nice as it does on the Xbox Series X/S, as Digital Foundry notes.

Lower resolution, noise and frame rate drops

Both the image quality and the performance are worse. In contrast to the Xbox version, the dynamic resolution range on the PS5 is lower, resulting in a significantly less sharp image. In addition, aliasing is more noticeable, which leads to noise and flickering. The geometric details and the shadow quality are better on the Sony console, but at least the latter should hardly be noticeable.

When it comes to the frame rate, there are a lot of smaller drops that only partially occur on the Xbox. Without a VRR capable screen, this issue results in a worse gaming experience.

Even more noticeable drawbacks can be seen on the Nintendo Switch. This is of course not surprising given the significantly weaker hardware. The resolution range here is only 360p to 720p. In addition, the quality of the assets was reduced and various effects were removed. These include depth of field, volume effects and light rays. In addition, the refresh rate of 30 FPS is anything but stable.

Things look completely different with “Sea of Thieves,” which will conquer the PS5 on April 30th. Here the PlayStation port is superior to the Xbox version. We previously observed the same thing with “Hi-fi-Rush” and “Pentiment”. “Grounded” is the first not-so-successful port.

“Grounded” is available on the PlayStation Store 39.99 euros. Here you fight your way through a garden with dangerous insects as a shrunken person. Take on a survival adventure that you can alternatively play together with three friends. Your job is to figure out how you got so small and find a way out.
