Xbox Series X/S: Is a Final Fantasy offensive imminent?

In recent weeks, rumors have been circulating that the “Final Fantasy” series could land on the Xbox Series X and S console duo on a larger scale.

According to Jez Corden of Windows Central, a whole series of games, including the “Final Fantasy 7 Remake” trilogy, “Final Fantasy 16” and the pixel remasters, for the Xbox. In the latest Xbox Two Podcast (via wccftech) he even claimed that the entire list was being considered.

In addition, Sony does not have exclusive rights to the “Final Fantasy 7 Remake” trilogy, which makes an Xbox release more likely.

FF7 remake trilogy for Xbox probably not too soon

The current focus is on “Final Fantasy 16,” which is being talked about as the next game in the series for the Xbox. According to Corden, it is possible that Square Enix will make such a step official during the Tokyo Game Show.

Final Fantasy 16 underperformed on PS5, so wider availability could give its success a boost.

A similar development could also apply to other games in the series – even to the remake trilogy? Alex Donaldson from VG247 advises caution at this point. According to his assessment, there is currently no active development of Xbox versions of the “Final Fantasy 7 Remake” game underway.

“I’ll just say it quite openly that, to my knowledge, there is currently no active development of an Xbox version of Remake or Rebirth,” said Donaldson.

Square Enix will “obviously do it at some point.” But as far as active port development of “Remake” or “Rebirth” is concerned, the journalist is sure that nothing is currently underway related to the Xbox. Donaldson pointed out that he is “pretty trustworthy” when it comes to “SEJ stuff.”

In the case of “Final Fantasy 16,” the matter is less questionable for the well-connected journalist: “You only have to look at Yoshida’s comments over the last six months or so. It’s clear that this will happen sooner rather than later.”

New multiplatform strategy from Square Enix

Such rumors and speculations are supported by the new multiplatform strategythat publisher Square Enix is pursuing. After “Final Fantasy 14” was released on the Xbox Series X/S after a long wait, the company seems to be working harder to make more titles available for the platform.

“Final Fantasy 16” will probably be the next big title planned for the Xbox Series X/S. The release could take place after the PC version, which conquered the market on September 17Square Enix has not yet commented on these rumors, but has promised more Xbox releases:

The new approach is part of a longer-term strategy to reach more players worldwide, but Alex Donaldson believes such strategies take time to implement, so Xbox players should continue to be patient.
