Fallout is more popular than it has been in a long time. The role-playing game series can thank Amazon and the new post-apocalyptic series on Prime Video for this. According to insider reports, publisher Xbox is now also pushing for a new role-playing game. But does Bethesda even have time for that?
Xbox wants a new Fallout – and quickly
Fallout 4 is almost nine years old. From a real successor to the RPG hit but there is no trace – Fallout 76 doesn’t count. Nevertheless, all eyes are now on the post-apocalyptic future and player numbers are skyrocketing. The reason for this is the success of the Fallout series on Amazon Prime. Even a second season has now been confirmed.

A new Fallout game would be just right for publisher Xbox. According to industry insider Jez Corden, there will be a new role-playing game “sooner rather than later” appear. He even expects a new Fallout to appear later this decade. Appropriate plans are currently being discussed behind the scenes.

Bethesda has no time for Fallout 5
However, there are only six years left until 2030 and developing such a large role-playing game will take a very long time. In addition, Fallout developer Bethesda has its hands full right now. He is currently working on DLCs for Starfield – after that Skyrim successor The Elder Scrolls 6 consequences. There won't be time for Fallout 5 until both projects are finished.
According to Cordon, developing a new Fallout game isn't all that time-consuming. After all, the Starfield engine is already ready. All you have to do is build assets for it. Nevertheless, the development would be discussed but to leave it to a studio other than Bethesda. The insider further explains that the game may not be called Fallout 5, but will be a spin-off of the series.

Corden personally wants Obsidian Entertainment to take action here again, which they already did with Fallout: New Vegas have experience with the universe. Like Bethesda, Obsidian is part of the Xbox Games Studios, but is currently working on The Outer Worlds 2. There is currently no release date for that either.
The journalist and insider is usually considered well-informed. However, the information is still just a rumor and Corden also admits that plans can change. So don't be too sure that you'll be able to play a new Fallout soon.
