A whopping 30 Oscar nominations, including 17 trophies won. The Lord of the Rings trilogy by the previously unknown independent director Peter Jackson had a real triumph in cinemas from 2001 to 2003. The Fantasy genre was again suitable for the masses and the basis for an audience of millions for Game of Thrones or The Witcher was in place.
The Hobbit trilogy followed in cinemas from 2012 to 2014. The Prequel to The Lord of the Rings was received far less favorably by fans. Since then the brand has been idle in the cinema, JRR Tolkien's stories about the War of the Ring are told. But recently Disney competitor Warner announced sensational news.

When is The Lord of the Rings coming back to the cinema?
Fantasy fans don't have to wait much longer. The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim is scheduled to hit theaters on December 12, 2024. The film takes place around 260 years of Peter Jackson's trilogy and is set in the same film universe. However, it is the case new Lord of the Rings film 2024 and an animated film. Another live-action film is scheduled to appear a little later.
How Warner (Dune, Marvel competitor DC, Harry Potter) announced that a new Lord of the Rings film with real actors will be released in cinemas in 2026. This film is already being worked on. The script is currently being written. However, there is one thing that will really make fans of Game of Thrones, Braveheart, The Witcher and The Lord of the Rings ecstatic.

The new Lord of the Rings film is actually set to be produced by Peter Jackson and his co-writers Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens. Although it appears that the New Zealand filmmaker himself will not be taking a seat in the director's chair, the makers of the Lord of the Rings trilogy are said to be “involved in every step of the creation process” as producers.
