Windows Firewall Control 6.9.9.8 resets the settings from the previous version

The Windows Firewall Control has received an update to version 6.9.9.8. It's been a quarter of a year since we reported on the tool. New in this version is the detection of invalid Windows Store rules.

If a package is not found on the computer, the rule appears with red text in the rules menu bar.

A new function was added in the last version from April 11, 2024. “Added support for getting friendly name for name, group, description of Windows Store Firewall rules.” And this rule has now been removed. This leaves at least one column in the rules panel for the version of the package.

Florian had already pointed out to me in advance that a lot of information had been lost due to the change in the last version. (Certainly not only) He contacted the developers and the function was reverted. So don't be surprised if it now looks like it did in version 6.9.9.6 and before.

    • Limitation: Windows Firewall is not compatible with software proxies, web filtering engines, NDIS drivers, and any other security software that can redirect traffic from Windows Firewall to its own filtering engine.
