Windows configuration update KB5035942 Windows 11 Moment 5 features are being prepared/activated [Update]

(Original April 4, 2024): Microsoft is currently distributing the new Windows configuration update as KB5035942. We already know from previous function updates that this type of update prepares or activates a function update. If you're wondering, KB5035942 is also the optional March 2024 update.

Previously, a separate KB had been used for a Windows configuration update. As an example in September 2023 the KB5030509 as preparation for Windows 11 23H2.

The Windows configuration update are updates that are activated using Controlled Feature Rollout (CFR) technology. So new functions that those who have the switch to “On” receive in advance. All others will receive these functions later with a regular update (Patchday).

It is currently difficult to say which functions are being prepared now or have been activated subsequently. Because you can't get this update. Microsoft had already started integrating the Windows 11 23H2 Moment 5 functions in February (KB5034848). They then went through with KB5035942 and just now pushed the Windows configuration update afterwards.

The assumption is that those who do not have the switch “On” under Windows Update are now being prepared for the upcoming security update because they have not yet installed the optional update. But that's just a guess.

So if you notice KB5035942 again in Windows Update, or if it appears in the update history -> Further updates. Everything is correct.

It can happen that the update is still being installed when you shut down. Unfortunately, there is no new information about this update or what Microsoft has released this time. But slowly the new functions of the update (uninstalling Edge, etc.) have to be activated for everyone. Thanks also to DK2000 for the tip.
